Our Inspection Services

Pre-purchase Inspections

Thinking about purchasing a new boat?

We can work with you, your broker, your surveyor and the current owner to ensure you have all the information needed before you make the purchase.

All our inspections include a written report and photographs, making it easy for you to discuss any identified issues.

Annual or Scheduled Checks

We operate a cloud-based system that makes scheduling boat inspections effortless. Whether you need recurring, annual, or a planned inspection, we can book you a slot in advance at a time and place that works best for you.

Insurance Inspections

Accidentally find a tree or bridge? Or is your insurer asking for a condition report?

We work with a range of insurers to give you detailed information on the damage done and the estimated repair costs.

We are also familiar with providing rigging condition reports, which are often required when insuring your boat.

Reporting and Photographs

Our detailed written report lets you know all the items we inspected and clearly highlights any issues needing attention.

Each report also contains high-quality photos of the problem areas to give you a clear understanding of necessary repairs.

From there, we can convert these reports into quotes and undertake any work needed. For more information, visit our Refits and Repair page.

Yachting NZ & Maritime NZ Inspections

Getting a Yachting NZ Category 1 Certificate or a Maritime NZ International Voyage Certificate?

Our reports comply with the standards set by Yachting NZ and Maritime NZ for rigging inspections. Please note that we inspect only the rigging, but we are happy to work with your surveyor or assessor to ensure you have all the necessary information.

What You Need to Know

We will do our best to thoroughly inspect your rigging, componentry and systems, however, our inspections are visual only.

N

We will check

  • Standing rigging,
  • Mast and boom,
  • Running rigging,
  • Furling / sail handling systems,
  • Deck Hardware,

And where possible, your up mast electrics will also be checked.

M

Limitations

Some parts will be impractical to check with the mast in place.

This includes:

  • Internal corrosion / fatigue of swaged terminals,
  • Internal components of the mast,
  • Some chainplates and other elements.

Life Expectancy

Wire and swages typically last 10-15 years depending on:

  • Usage and milage,
  • Heat and salinity.

Rod rigging should be checked every 6 years, including un-stepping the mast to disassemble the terminals and inspect the rod heads.
