We can work with you, or organise the entire job of removing your mast for any rig or hull work. Preparations such as disconnecting electrics and hydraulics, removal of sails and undoing rigging can be done by us in most cases, or for complicated systems, we have specialists on call.

Lifting can be accomplished using Gulf Harbour’s boatstacker fork hoist for boats up to forty feet, the travelift mounted 2-ton capacity Hiab crane can be used for larger vessels, or we can arrange a crane of any size for the largest masts.

We can also package your mast for transport or install masts for new boats being commissioned, as well as those that have traveled to New Zealand by ship or have been refurbished elsewhere and require installation. No matter your situation, we’re here to assist every step of the way!

Standing Rigging

We can replace all types of standing rigging, as well as supply and fit any necessary end terminals or mast fittings.

We service both wire and rod rigging and can supply both swaged and swageless fittings, allowing you to choose the option that best suits your boat.

In addition to traditional rigging, we can also supply and install synthetic Dyneema rigging, known for its strength and lightweight properties. Whether you’re looking to upgrade or completely replace your rigging, our team is here to ensure your setup is safe and reliable.

Got something funky going on at the top of your mast? We can help with that.

Reliable navigation lights and wind instruments make night time sailing safe, and effective communication through VHF or SSB radio is also essential.

We can supply and install new equipment and even cables with the mast in place, offering a range of options to suit your needs.

Servicing

Furling Gear

Headsail and mainsail furlers have made sailing a lot easier for today’s sailor. However, when they stop working properly, safety can be jeopardized by the inability to get rid of sail when conditions deteriorate. Many furlers have simple geometry problems that can be rectified to make for safer operation, and Gulf Harbour Rigging has the experience with most major brands to be able to identify and provide service as necessary for repairs and routine maintenance.

We can also provide advice on the most suitable furler for replacement or an entirely new system. We sell most major brands and install, and consult with the sailmaker to ensure the system chosen functions correctly. Brands sold include BamarFacnorFurlexHarkenReckmannReefriteProfurl and Schaefer Marine. Mainsail boom furlers from Leisurefurl and Reefrite.

We

Winches

Winches are an essential item of equipment on every yacht, but commonly have their maintenance ignored until they show obvious signs of problems. By this time, there can be irreparable internal damage. It is generally recommended that winches be disassembled, cleaned and lubricated once a season, or in the case of aluminium models, once every three months to prevent corrosion. Gulf Harbour Rigging can take care of all servicing needs, or supply materials and advise to help owners create a plan to keep on top of this messy job themselves. New winches available from Andersen WinchesLewmar and Harken.

Mast Re-Sealing

How it works

Preparation

Several things need to happen before your mast can be removed, you can do as much or as little as you like. This includes:

  • Disconnecting the electrics,
  • Disconnect the aerials,
  • Removing the sails.

Your boat is then simply driven around to the travel lift and the mast is removed. No need to haul out, no need to wait for the tides.

Repair

Once removed, your mast is walked up to our workshop for repairs to be completed.

  • We keep stock of most parts so you won’t be kept waiting
  • We will fix everything we can in-house

If we find something new that needs repair, we will always ensure you are advised of any additional costs.

Reinstall

A simple reverse process. Drive your boat to the travel lift and we will lift the mast back into place. No need to haul out, no need to wait for the tide.

We will then reconnect everything on the boat, and ensure it is all functioning correctly for you. We can even re-hoist your sails.
